FRANZ MEHRFERT - Music Director, Arranger, Bassist

Far from sunny warm Los Angeles, Franz was born in the cold Canadian Prairies of Saskatchewan, and grew up in the wild mountains of British Columbia.  After completing Bachelor degrees in music (double bass) and education at UBC in Vancouver, Franz freelanced as a professional bassist throughout British Columbia, directed high-school music programs, and was Principal Bassist with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (BC) for 5 years. He then seized the opportunity to perform and tour as music director/bassist onboard cruise ships, traveling all over the world. Franz has been happy to share the stage over his performing career as bassist/band leader with artists like Dee Daniels, Lorna Luft, Adrian Zmed, Tommy Banks, John Davidson, The Platters, Gary Guthman, Ian Finkle, Doug Cameron, Elaine Delmar, Marty Allen, Kenny James, Dominic Allen, Michelle Murlin, Bobby Arvon, Lovena Fox, Greg Bonham, Joni Butler, Brandi Chapman, Jacqui Michaels, Mac Frampton, Glenn Smith and many more.

Returning to dry-land eventually, Franz went on the road with the 1st National Broadway tour of “Nice Work If You Can Get It”, and most recently worked in corporate Entertainment, leading music programming, staffing and licensing for a major cruise line.  Franz’s travels have taken him around the world, but always bring him back to Los Angeles, where he currently resides with his wife, singer/actress Elvira Barjau, playing the bass as her MD and musical partner.
