Sam Labrecque

Sam Labrecque is an award-winning touring performing artist and multidisciplinary storytelling creative. Their current project is traveling while expanding their artistic expression to new mediums, deemed SAM:MAS. Sam’s latest original narrative work includes ADHD short film “Trying” (viral across the globe on YouTube, screened at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood with HollyShorts, presented twice at the Annual International Conference on ADHD), and her existential solo comedy musical “SAM”, a journey of identity told through the lens of her time in Hollywood (toured the US, awarded and nominated for 7 Best Solo Performance awards, sold out its debut run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival).

Exhibition Description

Created as a love letter to the signature LA beacons, “city trees” captures one of lifelong Los Angeles resident Sam Labrecque’s favorite city views: palm trees and power lines. Though they may not be around for much longer. While providing us with nostalgic Hollywood scenes, non-native palm trees are simultaneously depleting the area of vital resources, and are nearing the end of their 100-year lifespan. Power poles provide us with energy to fuel our metropolitan lives, while also serving as major fire, pollution, and wildlife risks in older LA neighborhoods. These cherished yet melancholic photos capture the ongoing negotiation of what is deemed "necessary" in nature and urban life.
