John Travis
"I grew up in London to the sound of punk rock. So, I saved up, bought a guitar, learned the requisite three chords, and started a band- or several.
Cut to 2020, when we watched in horror as a group of policemen choked a man named George Floyd to death. The streets were talking and the volume was rising."
Exhibition Description
"Amid a global pandemic, thousands marched in Los Angeles—the city I now called home. I had to join them, so I grabbed the camera. I felt that reconnection with the protest marches I went to as a young punk rocker. And while I was out of the streets, I was taking photos of people standing up against injustice.
From that moment, I was hooked. Photography became my three chords and the truth, my two turntables and a microphone—my unfiltered voice to the world. And it's gonna get loud!"
