Freddy Negrete

Born and raised in the Westside of Los Angeles, Freddy Negrete is a self taught artist. Early heavy art influences are 80s-90s skateboard art (Powell Peralta, Bones Brigade), comic books (Marvel, Image), all types of cartoons (Akira, Robotech), toys (TMNT, He-Man), street art, clothing, music (Nirvana) etc. Today Freddy likes to learn from artist such as Charles Burns, Skinner and Mark Dean Veca. Freddy likes to describe his art as putting all these influences in a blender and seeing what comes out. With his vibrant colors, mixed media and bold lines he creates his character “The Wanderer” which is basically a wandering eye lingering through the subterranean drip in search of a better vision. He calls it MyVisionMyPlanet (MVMP). Art style “Sup-Pop Art”. Enjoy!

Exhibition Description

This style of work is unmistakable for any other artist than Freddy. His way of fading and blending colors and shapes in these alien like formations is captivating. Most of his current pieces share a playful depiction of a yellow eyeball in a somewhat alien landscape or figuration. each piece changes with different elements, from how the colors change, to the way the landscape is inked and shaped. Be sure to see if you can see what the vision is looking at... maybe it's you!
